On Wednesday 3rd of April 62 Transition Year students and 6 teachers departed the school bound for Santiago de Campostela. The aim was to complete 80km of the Camino.
On Thursday the group completed the 12km route from Portomarin to Palas de Rei,
Friday was 29km from Palas de Rei to Arzua,
Saturday was another tough day of 30km from Arzua to Lavacolla,
Followed by the final day of walking 12km from Lavacolla to Santiago de Campostela. On reaching our destination the group attended the pilgrim mass in the Cathedral where they received special mention from the altar for their efforts.
There was a huge effort put in by all students to complete the long route with plenty of time for fun and craic along the way. The lads were commended all along the route for the positive attitude and general conduct throughout the trip.
A huge thank you goes to Ms. Geraldine Smith for organising the trip and ensuring that everything ran so smoothly. Also to the accompanying teachers: Mr. Lorcan Burns, Ms. Rachel Kiernan, Mr. Jack Keating, Ms. Niamh Plunkett & Mr. Enda Monaghan.
The main credit for the trip is reserved for the students themselves. Throughout the trip they were a credit to themselves, their families and whole school community. There’s no doubt they made memories that will last a lifetime.
