Steps to Leinster Success by Jimmy Shorten 5th Year

September 18, 2026

This past summer I was lucky enough to be selected for the Leinster u18 clubs summer programme.  For 12 weeks I trained 3 days a week in Leinster’s Centre of Excellence, Donnybrook.  We concentrated on Strength + Conditioning, Skill Work, Game IQ, Nutrition and Sports psychology.

At the end of July we travelled to the UK to face off against similar development squads in England, including Newcastle Redbull, Sale Sharks, Ealing Trail Finders and Coventry Rugby.  It was a very successful tour and we returned as a stronger squad.

The programme culminated into the PWC Interprovincial championships where we competed against Munster, Connaught and Ulster, over 3 consecutive weekends.  I started and played between position 8 and 5 for all 3 games.  We were undefeated and retained the U18 Clubs Interprovincial Title.    I really enjoyed and gained invaluable experience throughout the summer programme.

Recently, I was selected to continue my rugby journey with the Youth Selective Programme, which is the next step in the Leinster Pathway.

St.Pat’s wish Jimmy all the success in his future rugby endeavours.
