St. Pat’s U16 Basketball Panel faced The Marist Dundalk in their Regional Final in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross on Friday. Having been training over the Xmas break the St. Pat’s team went into the game with great energy and enthusiasm. The St. Pat’s outfit worked hard for all four quarters but found it difficult to make inroads into The Marist lead. With 13 seconds left on the clock the St. Pat’s players found themselves one point behind and used their final timeout wisely to gather themselves for the final play of the game. When play resumed the ball was worked down the court and ended up in the possession of Tomas Aukstakis who neatly finished the play with a basket, putting St. Pat’s 1 point ahead with 1.5 seconds left on the clock and in doing so the U16 basketballers secured gold on a scoreline of 46-45. The positive attitude displayed by the team and their fantastic work ethic on the court resulted in a thrilling final and they now join the U19 Panel as Regional Champions.
