Today marks the beginning of Lent. This journey of 40 days and nights (excluding Sundays) reminds us of Jesus’ fast in the wilderness.
The ashes we receive today are traditionally made from burned palms of last year’s Palm Sunday. They are a sign of repentance, humility and mortality.
Ash Wednesday is a day when Christians renew the 3 practices of Fasting, Prayer & Charity. It’s an opportunity to renew, strengthen and develop our relationship with God.
We invite students to give something up this Lent, to volunteer their time in their community and to check in with God. This can take many forms, either through prayer, fasting or charity.
Fr. Sebi, Ms Smith and Mr. Donnelly distributed ashes to staff and students today in the school Oratory.
