Well done to the Junior Rugby team who travelled to Wilson’s Hospital School today and secured a comprehensive win in their first game of the season.
Wilson’s got off to an impressive start, taking advantage of our first match nerves with a try in the early moments of the game.
St. Pat’s dusted themselves off and reorganised. They pushed on with impressive forward running and Ishan Dharmasena went over the line at the other end, followed by a conversion by Patrick Yourell.
Wilson’s put the pressure on for a period following this but after a try in the corner by captain Patrick Yourell, the Navan side began to gain further momentum.
St Pat’s showed top class support play and rugby debutant Cormac Nugent made an excellent burst to claim his first try.
Following the half-time break the men from Multyfarnham spent a period in our half but the St. Pat’s side showed their composure, defending well.
St Pat’s pulled on the pressure and Out-half Eoin Burke made a cheeky cut along the sideline to further the Navan side’s lead.
After a team display of support running and offloads that would impress even the best rugby players, Cormac Nugent touched down for a try under the posts.
Despite two more tries from the Wilson’s side in the closing stages of the game, the Navan men had worked hard to ensure they were out of reach at that point.
To finish on a high, Ishan Dharmasena powered across the line in the final moments of the match.
A special congratulations to the six players who featured in their first ever rugby match today.
