December 8, 2023
The St. Pat’s Junior team made it two from two in their outing this Thursday with an away match versus Edenderry. The game got off to a slow start with Edenderry playing a very defensive 14 men behind the ball style. This helped them keep Pat’s quiet in the first half with the aid of a small and narrow pitch. Edenderry were first to strike in the 8th minute. They weren’t ahead for long though as Tadgh Foley converted an outside of the boot attempt from outside the 21. Pat’s struck again after Rían Liggan turned over the ball from Edenderry 12 and Will Byrne went on to score. Edenderry then missed a few chances before Pat’s broke through for their first goal of the game. Cormac Smith played a quality over the top ball from a quick free kick to Adam McEvoy who collected the ball and calmly ran around the keeper then put the ball in the back of the net. Liam Devine finished off the first half of scoring for Pat’s with a right footed score after some fine through the hands passing from the Pat’s team. Edenderry got the last point of the half as they converted from a free kick brought up by the referee.
Halftime St. Pat’s 1-03 Edenderry 0-2
Pat’s got off to the start they needed in the second half as only minutes after the restart another goal was added to the score line. A long high ball was played from Charles McCarthy into Rían Porter who quickly turned around and fired it into the top corner off his left boot. The Edenderry keeper would have to pick the ball out of his net yet again as Adam McEvoy found the top corner from a penalty after Stephen Cahill was dragged down in the Edenderry box. Pat’s kept the scoreboard ticking as Will Byrne converted two frees with a Cormac Smith point in between. Edenderry were not going out without a fight as they converted points of their own including an impressive long range free kick. Thomas Morgan then came to the rescue with a goal line clearance with 10 minutes to go. Another Pat’s attack forced a save from Edenderry’s keeper stopping a very impressive passage of one two play from the Pat’s forwards. Stephen Cahill scored Pat’s last score of the game with a fine left footed score from a tight angle.
