Today, St. Patrick’s Classical School celebrated our National Flag Day in association with the Thomas F. Meagher Foundation.
The Thomas Francis Meagher foundation was established in 2013 to promote pride in and respect for the Irish flag and an understanding of its symbolism and meaning for peace, in particular among young people irrespective of ethnicity, creed or gender.
We celebrated our national flag day with a flag raising ceremony. Thomas Harford on behalf of the school community raised our school flag and was accompanied by Sean Gilsenan who sang a beautiful rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann
History teachers shared a Flag Day themed lesson.
‘The white in the centre signified a lasting truce between orange and green, I trust that beneath its folds the hands of the Irish catholic and the Irish protestant may be clasped in generous and heroic brotherhood.’
